Steel Doors Cape Town

A steel door changes how a room feels. Slim frames let in more light than bulkier frames allow, and a single large leaf can open an entire living area to the garden. The right choice depends on the size of the opening and on how you plan to use the space every day.

M2G Jansen is the exclusive distributor of Jansen steel fenestration systems. From our Cape Town showroom, we supply Swiss-engineered Jansen profiles to accredited local fabricators, who build and install each door to your drawings. Every system on this page is tested to European standards.

Which Steel Door Is Right for Your Project?

Each door type solves a different problem. Here is how they compare.

Pivot Doors

A pivot door turns on pivots fixed at the floor and head of the frame instead of side hinges. That allows a wider, heavier leaf, which is why pivot doors work so well at statement entrances and in double-volume spaces. Jansen door leaves can reach up to 2 000 mm wide and 6 000 mm high, so the door can read as a moving wall. Explore our large-format steel pivot doors.

Entrance Doors

Your front door is the first thing a visitor touches. Jansen entrance doors can be made up to 3 metres tall and fitted with hardware to suit the style of the house, from a contemporary build in Constantia to a renovated semi in Observatory. See the range of steel entrance doors.

Slimline Doors and Partitions

This is the thinnest Jansen profile range, with integrated gasket seals and a choice of lock box designs. Slimline doors are often used indoors as glazed partitions between a kitchen and living room, where you want some separation without losing light. Folding Doors

Fully sealed concertina doors fold back to one side and clear most of the opening. They suit patios and entertainment areas, where you may want the inside and outside to work as one space in summer and a sealed wall through a Cape winter. Find out more about steel folding doors.

Lift-and-Slide Doors

When you turn the handle, the sash lifts off its seals and slides along the track. Turn it back, and the panel lowers onto rubber gaskets that run around the full perimeter. That makes lift-and-slide doors a practical option for large sliding openings exposed to wind and driven rain, which is a real consideration along the Atlantic Seaboard. Visit our lift-and-slide steel door page.

Fire Doors

Where a building is divided into fire compartments, fire-rated steel doors and glazed partitions help hold back fire and smoke while keeping rooms visually open. They are usually specified by the architect or fire engineer on commercial and multi-residential projects. Learn more about fire-rated steel doors.

Security Doors

For higher-risk sites, Jansen offers doors tested to certified burglar resistance classes, as well as bullet-resistant options for high-profile projects. Compare anti-burglar steel doors with bullet-resistant doors, or read about emergency escape doors if your building needs a certified exit route with panic fittings.

Who Are Steel Doors Suited To?

Most of the doors we supply go into private homes, usually through an architect or interior designer. We also support commercial projects and heritage buildings across the Western Cape. If you are renovating an older property, our page on heritage steel windows explains how new steel can be matched to period details.

What Happens After You Choose a Door?

The process is straightforward once you have a drawing to work from.

  1. Send us a sketch or your architectural drawings. We typically turn enquiries around within 48 hours, so that an accredited metalworker can send you a quotation or budget.
  2. We offer technical advice and, where the opening calls for it, preliminary structural and thermal calculations.
  3. Fabrication drawings are checked and approved before production. This is where the details between the door, the wall and the floor are resolved.
  4. An accredited fabrication partner builds the doors from Jansen profiles and installs them on site.

What Should You Plan For?

Steel doors are a considered purchase. A few early decisions make the project run more smoothly.

  • Size and weight: very large leaves need structural support at the head and floor, so bring your architect or engineer in early.
  • Coastal exposure: the coating applicator issues the guarantee against corrosion, so ask about the right finish for a home near the sea.
  • Thresholds: external doors need a threshold detail that manages water, especially on exposed elevations.
  • Lead time: every door is made to measure, so allow time for design approval and fabrication before your installation date.

Steel is not the answer to every opening or every budget. If another approach would serve your project better, we will tell you.

Can You See the Doors Before You Decide?

Yes, and it helps. Visit our showroom in Cape Town, open the doors yourself and talk through your project with our team. You are also welcome to send your sketch designs for budget pricing. Many projects pair doors with windows, so you may want to look at our steel windows in Cape Town too.
